Town officials stopped by Flynn Memorial Park to help the Smithtown Patriots kick off their Opening Day game for the 2023 season. On Tuesday, May 9th, at 10AM, the Smithtown senior softball team; the Patriots, played the Brookhaven Silver Streaks at Flynn Memorial Park. Councilman Tom Lohmann wished the team and their opponents from Brookhaven the best of luck, and a memorable opening day as he threw out the first pitch.
“These guys are some of the most fierce athletes I’ve seen play the game… Some of whom have played professionally. I love coming to Opening Day and hearing from the home and away teams just how much they love playing at Flynn. It gives me a great sense of pride to witness both our little leagues and our senior leagues enjoy the game on a brand new field!” - Councilman Tom Lohmann
The battle between the Patriots and Silver Streaks ultimately ended in a draw, as each team won one of the two games played. The Smithtown Patriots Senior Softball Team is sponsored by the Smithtown Senior Citizens' Department.
