Tai Chi

Town of Smithtown Senior Center to Offer a Free Trial Tai Chi Class to Senior Center Members New to the Session

Smithtown Senior Citizens curious about the many benefits of Tai Chi can take advantage of a free class this Friday, February 17th. Starting this Friday, from 2PM to 3PM, residents who have yet to sign up for the Tai Chi course (eight classes) at the Senior Center can take this class for free. Residents can sign up for the full session, which takes place every Friday at 2PM, through April 7th, for $25, a $5 savings.

“I don’t know anywhere else where you can take a Tai Chi class, or any health related service, for approximately three dollars a class. This is a great offer to take advantage of, and comes with the added benefit of improving health, cognitive functions and overall well being. Our Senior Citizens Department team goes out of their way to offer amenities like this, which enrich and benefit the lives of our residents over the age of 60. With Spring around the corner, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday afternoon.” - Supervisor Ed Wehrheim

The Smithtown Senior Citizens Department is offering one free Tai Chi class, with a reduced price of $25 for the remainder of the session. The normal price is $30 per eight class session. The Tai Chi Session starts this Friday, February 17th, from 2PM to 3PM. The Free class offer is open to new Tai Chi participants only. Residents looking to take advantage of the session discount must be registered members of the Senior Citizens Center. Smithtown residents over the age of 60 can join the Senior Citizens Center by filling out a simple application with proof of residency.

Benefits of Tai Chi may include:

  • Improvement of cognitive function
  • Relief of symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Improvement in strength and flexibility
