[ARCHIVED] Outdoor Dining Heats Up

Kings Park Lamps

Town Supervisor Announces Extended Outdoor Dining As The Kings Park Chamber of Commerce Distributes Outdoor Heat Lamps Awarded By PSEG-LI

Town of Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim made a surprise announcement last Thursday, extending temporary outdoor dining to December 31st, 2020. The proclamation was made as the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce distributed 15 outdoor heat lamps and fuel to local restaurant owners, courtesy of a $5,000 grant from PSEG Long Island to assist local business communities with new ways of getting back to business. The Kings Park Chamber of Commerce distributed the outdoor heat lamps to Legends Bar and Grill, Ciro’s, Relish, Short Stop Pizzeria, Simply Greek, Long River, Cafe Red, and Shanahans Bar and Grill.

“I want to commend Karyn Kemp-Smith and PSEG-LI, the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Diane Motherway and President Tony Tanzi... This is exactly the kind of boost local businesses need right now, to help make them whole again. When I shared today’s good news with the Town Council, we were inspired. And so I’m pleased to announce that the Town Board has unanimously agreed to extend outdoor dining permits to the end of the year.” - Supervisor Ed Wehrheim

The Kings Park Chamber of Commerce was the recipient of a special grant from PSEG Long Island, aimed at redefining and creating outdoor commercial spaces. The award of $5,000 will go towards reimbursing the Chamber’s purchase of 15 outdoor heat lamps and the fuel to operate each one. The funding from PSEG Long Island is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis to Chambers of Commerce and Business Improvement Districts. About Temporary Outdoor Dining Permits:

In June, the Town of Smithtown implemented a temporary outdoor dining permit process. This simple one page application is designed to assist existing restaurants who are authorized by the Governor to re-open but lack the indoor space to accommodate social distancing requirements. A link to download the application is available on the homepage of the Town of Smithtown website.
