The Town of Smithtown Horizons Counseling and Education Center, in partnership with the Town of Smithtown Youth Bureau and Public Safety Waterways and Navigation, is encouraging all Smithtown youth to participate in a new creative campaign to bring awareness to the issue of boating while drinking.
“As we know, boating and drinking are an extremely dangerous combination and have caused many accidents and deaths in the past. We want to remind our community to have fun in a safe and healthy way. Getting our young people involved in the message gives them a voice on this topic as well.” - Kelly Devito, Youth Services Coordinator
Participants can choose to either color the motor boat template provided, draw their own picture, or film a video with a unique tagline or safety message to go along with the creation. The message should raise awareness of the dangers of boating while under the influence of a substance. Youth participants who draw or color should take a photo of themselves with the picture and submit it along with a completed photo release. Submissions will be accepted through August 10th.
Send all submissions to Kelly Devito via email at KDevito@smithtownny.gov or call (631)360-7578 for more information.
