This Saturday, the Town of
Smithtown Department of Environment and Waterways is hosting its bi-annual
Household Hazardous Waste event. Residents are invited to bring items that are
not permitted in regular curbside waste pickups for environmentally safe
disposal. Hazardous waste can be dropped off between 7AM and 3PM on Saturday,
October 19th at the Municipal Services facility on Old Northport Road in Kings
Park.
Items considered toxic or hazardous include antifreeze, pool
chemicals, photo chemicals, old paints and paint remover, lighter fluid,
adhesives, and herbicides. Residents are encouraged to avoid purchasing
products labeled “Toxic” or “Hazardous” as a means of proactively protecting
your family and your home.
On April 13th of this year, the Town held its biggest bi-annual
hazardous household waste event yet. Approximately 606 Smithtown households
participated in the event, safely disposing toxic items. The turnout resulted
in over 20 tons of hazardous materials collected.
This is a free service. Proof of residency is required. The Town
of Smithtown Municipal Services Facility is located at 85 Old Northport Road in
Kings Park, NY.
