[ARCHIVED] Supervisor's Report

Supervisor's Report

The start to Fall is just a week away and that means Smithtown is alive with fun festivals & things to do. The town has a full schedule of road, park, and infrastructure repairs coming up over the next few weeks. In an effort to ensure your fall fun is not interrupted, you can save time and get up to the minute alerts by downloading the Town of Smithtown Mobile App, available for free at the Apple Store and Google Play.

Harvest Lane: The Highway Department will continue Concrete Repairs to sidewalks along Harvest Lane this week.

Hoyt Farm: Our Municipal Services teams have installed Glass Recycling containers at Hoyt Farm. Our Commack residents now have a location a little closer than Old Northport Road to drop off glass containers for recycling.

Commack Day: On Saturday, September 28th, (rain date: Sunday, September 29th) don’t miss out on celebrating the community of Commack at Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve. The Second Annual Commack Day will take place from 11AM to 5PM.

LI Innovation Park at Hauppauge: The Adams Avenue and New Highway project is in full swing. The Highway/Traffic Safety Departments are in the process of widening New Highway from one lane to two thru lanes. Adams Avenue is also being enlarged to create dual left turn lanes.

The project includes sidewalk repairs and replacements, modern mast arm traffic signals, new lighting, landscaping & signage. This much needed project will offer safer roads for bicyclists, runners, and pedestrians, in addition to improved motor vehicle traffic.

Sunset Lane: The Highway Department will continue grinding down uprooted sidewalks and making repairs to the concrete sidewalks along Sunset Lane this week.

Park, Collins & Meridian Avenues: Curb Cut repairs and work will be ongoing this week on Park Avenue, Collins Avenue, and Meridian Avenue. Paving is expected to begin in the following week, upon completion.

Sunken Meadow Rd: Our Traffic Safety Department will be installing a new guard rail along Sunken Meadow Road, just west of Old Dock Road this week.

Browns Road: Paving is slated to begin along Browns Road by the end of this week, subject to weather conditions. The Highway Department will pave Browns Road from 347 to Nicholls Road. Residents should plan for extra travel time during peak hours.

Gibbs Pond Road: Asphalt paving along Gibbs Pond Road from Nicholls to Smithtown Boulevard is slated to begin on Friday, pending weather conditions.

Smithtown Bull: Our Parks Department will be installing the lettering on the “Smithtown” sign this week, along with the installation of electric work and laying top soil. Landscaping is expected to be complete by the end of next week.

Terry Road: Residents should prepare for possible roving road closures along Terry Road as the Highway Department completes curb maintenance and repairs, from Townline Road to Smithtown Boulevard.

Washington Boulevard: The Highway Department has slated to pave Washington Boulevard on Thursday of this week, from Plymouth Boulevard to the end. Residents should check the Town App for possible road closures or delays ahead of time.

Once the pavement has cured, our Traffic Department will begin to install a cobblestone style pedestrian crosswalk and two solar powered LED crossing beacons with push button activation.
