Supervisor's Weekly Update: Labor Day Weekend Fun

Supervisor's Weekly Report

WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND SMITHTOWN LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Summer has gone by way too fast… But we still have one long weekend left to enjoy with family and good friends. As we head into the Labor Day weekend, this week's report focuses on some outstanding free events happening this holiday weekend, as well as what’s coming up as we gear up to head back to school.

FREE CONCERT AT LONG BEACH: We’re thrilled to announce that there will be TWO more concerts happening at Long Beach this weekend, thanks to the owner of Katie’s on the Sound, who has graciously paid for these shows out of his own pocket.

FRIDAY AUGUST 30:

THE NUBS AT THE BEACH: Friday Night at Long Beach from 6PM - 9PM, enjoy 80s New Wave, Punk, and Dance Pop as The Nubs take you back in time.

SATURDAY AUGUST 31:

GEORGE CINTRON & ROB DEMARTINO: On Saturday night from 6:30PM - 9:30PM, listen to classic rock from two of Long Island’s best musicians. They’ve played on stages worldwide, but they are closing out the Summer Season right here at home.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 8:

SCHOOL OF ROCK CONCERT: Don’t miss this Free “Best of Season concert” on Sunday, September 8th from 12PM to 7 PM at the Long Beach Pavillion. Approximately 125 musicians will perform throughout the day, ranging in age from 7 years old to adult rockers. The music encompasses everything from classic rock and alternative to disco. This is a rain or shine event.

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 9:

DR. DEWEY AT SMITHTOWN LANDING COUNTRY CLUB: Attend the free substance use awareness workshop by Dr. Stephen L. Dewey at Smithtown Landing Country Club in the Nissequogue Room at 6:30PM. This is a MUST ATTEND FREE event for parents and their children. Dr. Dewey is a renowned speaker who uses unique PET scans to explain the science behind a wide range of addiction, from Smart Phones and caffeine to alcohol, vaping, and drug use. Narcan Training,
Prescription Take Back, and light refreshments will be served. This event is made possible thanks to Horizons Counseling & Education Center, Well Life Network, and the Smithtown Rotary Club.

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 10:

The Town of Smithtown and Integrated Medical Foundation will host free Prostate Cancer screenings at the Smithtown Town Hall Board Room on
Tuesday, September 10th, from 11AM to 1PM. This event is open to all men over the age of 40 who have not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer,
regardless of whether or not they have insurance. To schedule a free screening, RSVP to 631-257-6070.

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 11:

On Wednesday, September 11th at 5PM, join the Town, in Conjunction with the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce, in a Remembrance Ceremony at the Town of Smithtown 9-11 Memorial Park, just off Main Street in Smithtown.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH:

The Feal Good Foundation and the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park hosts the Annual Memorial Service & Naming Ceremony promptly at 10:00AM in
Nesconset. On a side note, for those who were following the storm damaged to the park, the ceremony is still on. However, the damage was extensive and will
not be fully covered by insurance. Donations can be made to help rebuild the Gazebo area via the FealGood Foundation’s website.

THRU SEPTEMBER 2:

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: If you have extra notebooks or went overboard on School Supplies this year, you can give back to the Smithtown Children’s
Foundation by dropping off school supplies at Town Hall through Tuesday, September 2nd. The Smithtown Children’s Foundation will use your donations to give kids in need supplies in time for the start of the school year.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 21:

FREE SHRED EVENT: The bi-annual Free Paper Shredding event is coming up on September 21st from 9AM-3PM at Town Hall. This is a free service to safely and securely dispose of unwanted documents while helping the environment. The event is seamlessly orchestrated by our Environment & Waterways division, Municipal Services team, and Public Safety.

FREE MULCH: The Municipal Services Facility (85 Old Northport Road) has newly chipped mulch, made of recycled tree limbs of the big June 30th storm. This is a great free service to our residents to help save money on your yard cleanup.

I would like to wish all of you a happy Labor Day weekend and a very safe and pleasant start to September. If you have ideas or would like certain topics discussed in this weekly report, please email the Supervisor's Office at supervisor@smithtownny.gov
