Residents requests for a second shredding event are answered. Safely shred sensitive documents at the Bi-Annual Paper Shredding Event on Saturday October 20th
The Town of Smithtown Department of Environment and Waterways in partnership with the Municipal Services Facility and the Department of Public Safety will host the second Paper Shredding Event of the year on Saturday, October 20th. The event will be held at Town Hall on Main Street in Smithtown from 9:00 am through 3:00 pm.
“We had a number of phone calls and emails after the first event, requesting that we do this type of event again before the years end. It was so seamlessly orchestrated by DEW, MSF and Public Safety this summer… We just had to find a way to give the people what they want.” - Ed Wehrheim, Town of Smithtown Supervisor
Due to a successful inaugural event, in which 206 families came down to safely shred sensitive documents in June of this year, The Town of Smithtown has arranged for a Fall Shred Event.
“The first event went so well we immediately began to plan a second shred event. Our residents are so grateful that we are providing a much needed service to local families and our environment… it’s a win win.” - Councilman Thomas McCarthy
The First inaugural paper shredding event resulted in approximately 25 cubic yards, or the size of a dumpster, in paper collected and securely disposed of. All personal documents, weighing in at 9,500 pounds or nearly 5 tons, were safely destroyed by Data Shredding Service, Inc. of Corporate Drive in Hauppauge.
