[ARCHIVED] Town Offers Public Speaking Skills & Alliance Community Leadership Training

The Town of Smithtown Horizons Counseling & Education Center and Youth Bureau will host a Youth & Community Alliance Open House and Community Leadership training. This free seminar; Overcoming Fear and Becoming a Better Public Speaker is available for adults, middle school and high school students on Wednesday, August 15th at the Smithtown Library, Main Branch, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

This seminar is ideal for anyone who may suffer from stage fright, the fear of speaking in front of others or those who might feel afraid to share thoughts with others? Public speaking educators from Toastmasters International EZ Speakers Club will cover common public speaking fears, anxieties and the strategies to cope using speech structure, development & purpose; body language;  and effective vocal techniques.  Demonstrations of effective public speaking skills and the opportunity for interactive audience participation will be included as part of training.

The purpose of this meeting and community training is for personal and professional development, as well as to educate the public about the Town of Smithtown Youth & Community Alliance town-wide initiatives.  The Alliance wishes to cultivate leaders among ALL members of the community. Involvement in Town Alliance initiatives and leadership trainings is perfect for: students; parents; faith-based organizations; school personnel; law enforcement; local businesses; veterans; senior citizens; social and civic groups; professional organizations; and all other concerned Town of Smithtown residents.

The Town of Smithtown Youth & Community Alliance’s mission is:  "To promote the health and wellness of our young people; mobilize schools and communities; and utilize resources to create and sustain an environment where destructive decisions and substance abuse are reduced."   Registration is required to participate in the “Overcoming Fear and Becoming a Better Public Speaker” community leadership training.
