[ARCHIVED] Smithtown Winter Storm Warning

a winter storm warning will remain in effect for our area, beginning at 6 AM Wednesday until 6 AM Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning will remain in effect beginning at 6 AM Wednesday until 6 AM Thursday. Heavy snow expected with accumulations predicted to be between 5 to 9 inches. Travel is expected to become difficult to impossible, specifically during the evening commute. The snowfall will develop during the morning, becoming heavy by the afternoon. At times visibility will make for treacherous travel conditions. Heavy snow and wind gusts (up to 37 mph) could bring down tree limbs and power lines. Travel during this storm is not recommended.

“I would urge residents to stay home if possible. These conditions will make for a dangerous commute making travel hazardous to impossible at times. If you intend to drive during this storm, please keep your vehicles stocked with an extra flashlight, food, water and emergency supplies. Take precautionary measures tonight such as charging up all cell phones, computers and battery operated radios. Check in on your elderly family and neighbors to make sure they have enough supplies. And please keep all pets indoors during this storm.” - Supervisor Ed Wehrheim
