In 2019 the Town of Smithtown, in collaboration with consultants H2M Engineers, began the process of updating its Comprehensive Master Plan. This will guide future land use decisions, development projects, and infrastructure investment throughout the Town. During the initial phase, the Town conducted public workshops in each of the Town’s six hamlets to gather community input regarding existing conditions and the public's vision for the future. Additionally, the town collected public input through an online questionnaire to which more than 1,100 community members responded to.
On December 15, 2020, the Town released the Draft Comprehensive Plan and initiated the State Environmental Quality Review process. The community at large is invited to review and share comments pertaining to both the Draft Comprehensive Plan and SEQRA documents.
