PUBLIC ACCESS TO BUILDINGS

Town department buildings are open to the public, in adherence with COVID-19 guidelines and capacity restrictions. Please refer to the instructions below for each building. 


Animal Shelter:

Open to the public by appointment only. Along with standard sign in information visitors must use hand sanitizer prior to signing a waiver stating they are symptom and exposure free upon entry. 


Building Department:  

Open to the public. Drop off and pick up boxes are still available to reduce the amount of people entering the office. Requests to view files are on an appointment only basis, with a one-on-one basis. All visitors are required to sign in with contact information. 

 

Comptroller/Assessors Building: 

Open to the public during regular operating hours by appointment only. A secure mail slot is available for drop off mail or payments.


Department of Environment and waterways/Engineering:

The office is open to the public. The lobby waiting areas have been arranged to meet social distancing guidelines. Appointments are recommended but not required. Standard operating hours are 9AM-5PM.


Municipal Services Facility:

MSF is now open to the public. Bagged Mulch is available for Smithtown Residents. Please observe social distancing and wear facial masks when visiting MSF, located at 85 Old Northport Road, in Kings Park. 


Planning Department:

The Planning Department is open to the public from 9 to 5. Although encouraged, no appointment is needed. Meetings are being held virtually to accommodate social distancing guidelines. All drop boxes are still available to reduce the traffic in and out of the building. Residents can contact the Planning Department via phone with any questions or requests.


Public Safety:

Open to the public. 


Recreation Department:

The Recreation permit office is open to the public during regular business hours. A limit of one person or family is permitted inside the office at a time.  Residents are asked to wait outdoors six feet apart until entering the building. Permit Office Hours: April - August Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00am- 3:45pm | September 1st - October 15th: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:45pm.

Senior Center: 

The Senior Center is open to the public. Standard services such as meal delivery, transportation and home maintenance services are still operating. Residents who come to the Senior Center for lunch and require meals can make arrangements for meal delivery. The Meals on Wheels program will continue to operate to homebound seniors. To arrange for your meals to be delivered, (suggested donation $2.50 per meal) please contact the Senior Center at (631)360-7616.

Smithtown Town Hall:

Town Hall is now open to the public, through the front entrance only. The rear entrance remains locked for employee access only. Safety guidelines are being strictly enforced and residents are encouraged to call ahead to find out if a service or application is available to file and submit online. 

Town Clerk:

The Town Clerk’s office is currently opened for transactions with the exception of marriage licenses. Marriage licenses will only be issued to Smithtown residents by appointment only.  Please call 631-360-7620.  Masks are required to enter the building.

Traffic Department:

Residents requesting a survey such as the addition of a Stop Sign, No Parking sign, etc should write a brief letter describing the request or complaint and emailing it to traffic@smithtownny.gov. Any reports of street lights that are out, signs down, traffic signals out etc can be reported by calling (631) 360-7635.


Water District Building:

The building is fully open to the public. A secure mail slot is also available for customers who prefer not to enter the building. 


Horizons Counseling and Education Center:

The staff of Horizons Counseling and Education Center are assisting the public both remotely and in person at this time. Clients should call the agency phone number to make arrangements for services.
