This Month's Awareness Topic

October is
Adopt a Shelter Dog or Cat Month

The month of October is recognized as Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog-or-Cat month by the ASPCA.  This brings attention to homeless animals in each community.  The ASPCA encourages individuals to visit their local shelters during the month, and adopt one of the amazing animals looking for a forever home. The ASPCA believes that when it comes to adding a pet to your family "adoption is the BEST option!"  You can read more about it on their homepage here.
Our local shelter, The Smithtown Animal Shelter,  provides care for lost, stray, and surrendered animals for the residents of Smithtown.  Their goal is to reunite lost animals with their owners and find new homes for the unclaimed and relinquished pets.  Town residents are encouraged to visit, and see the pets that are available for adoption today.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter also encourages volunteers of all ages to give their time to the lovable animals in need.  You can find out more information about their volunteer opportunities by clicking here.

Important Parent and Student Surveys

The Smithtown Youth Bureau is responsible for planning and supporting programs and opportunities for young people and their families. Youth projects are researched and developed with the assistance of the Town Youth Board.

The Youth Bureau administers the Parent Resource Center, offering support and education to parents in addition to providing youth development programs and opportunities for students throughout the Town of Smithtown. These programs are funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the Suffolk County Youth Bureau, and the Town of Smithtown.
